Weddings at First Church
Because marriage is a holy covenant between two persons in the presence of God, we at First Church, UCC, are honored to be the site chosen by this couple. We pray blessings upon them and hope that not only the day of the ceremony but their entire life together is one of happiness. Our sanctuary seats 275 people and is pictured below.

Setting the Date
Couples who wish to be married at First Church, UCC, should make their plans as far in advance as possible. Please contact the church office (508-888-0434) as soon as you have chosen the date for your wedding. Any arrangements made are considered tentative until confirmed by the pastor and the deposit has been received by the church office.
Meeting with the Pastor
Three meetings with the pastor will be required. It is your responsibility to schedule your first appointment with the pastor about four to six months before your wedding. The pastor will meet with you to talk about your marriage and to help you plan the ceremony.
A date and time for the wedding rehearsal will be set when you meet with the pastor for the first time. Wedding rehearsals take about 45 minutes. Please be sure that your entire wedding party is on time for the rehearsal.
The sanctuary can hold up to 275 guests. It has a magnificent pipe organ and a center aisle. (The use of folding chairs in the sanctuary, any exit or stairway is prohibited.)
One of our pastors will conduct your wedding ceremony. Other clergy may share in the ceremony, at the request of the couple, by permission of the pastor. We are very open to sharing the service with visiting clergy, but we no longer permit weddings without the participation of one of our ministers.
The church organist will be happy to discuss the music for your wedding ceremony. It is your responsibility to contact the organist several weeks before your ceremony. Our organist plays for all services at First Church, UCC, unless other arrangements are made in advance. Soloists and special musicians (flute, harp, trumpet, etc.) are welcome. If you have arranged for your own soloist, you will need to contact our organist so she can make arrangements to get copies of music and to practice. The church does not set fees for the soloists and the musicians that you provide. Please make your own arrangements with them.
Photography and Videography
Please ask your photographer or videographer to check with the pastor about the church’s guidelines. Our simple request is that they do not distract from the ceremony in any way.
A wedding coordinator will be appointed by First Church, UCC, to answer any logistical questions and to assist you at both the rehearsal and the service itself.
Some couples choose to symbolize their union with a Unity Candle. The church does have a brass holder for a unity candle; however you must provide your own candles.
Other than flowers and pew bows, decorations in the church are discouraged. Liturgical paraments will remain in place.
Aisle Carpets (“runners”) are your responsibility.( An aisle carpet is not necessary and often is more of a nuisance than an asset).
Please do not throw rice, birdseed, or confetti.
First Church UCC is smoke-free – smoking is strictly prohibited.
Please remember that the celebration begins after the ceremony and not on church property. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the church premises.
You must obtain a marriage license from a town or city hall within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts prior to your marriage ceremony. Details are available at firstname.lastname@example.org Please bring your license to the wedding rehearsal.
