Did you know….
Halloween’s roots trace back to ancient Celtic traditions of Samhain, a festival marking the end of harvest and the beginning of the darker half of the year. People believed the boundary between the living and the dead was thin, and they lit bonfires, wore costumes, and carved turnips (later pumpkins) to ward off wandering spirits.
When Christianity spread through Europe, the Church didn’t erase these practices but re-shaped them. November 1 became All Saints’ Day (or All Hallows’ Day)—a day to honor the faithful who had gone before us. The evening before, October 31, became All Hallows’ Eve, which over time was shortened to Halloween.
