First Church will once again be hosting a Sole Hope shoe party on Oct. 17th after Sunday Service and we need volunteers!
We will be cutting shoe templates from old jeans to be sent to Uganda where they will be made into shoes, to protect feet and prevent disease, and jiggers. Jiggers are fleas that burrow into a person’s skin and latches onto blood vessels. Within days the jigger swells to over 1000 times the size it was while continuously laying eggs. Those eggs hatch, mature, and lead to an infestation. The results of jigger infestation are pain, itching, and infection. Worst of all, due to widespread cultural beliefs, people infested with jiggers are often shunned for the “curse” painfully visible upon their body.
Sole Hope provides shoes, clinics and education. There are many ways you can get involved;
- Join us for our foot party,
- Bring a good pair of fabric scissors
- Donate your old jeans for us to cut into templates to make a pair of shoes. (Jeans can be dropped off at the church, there will be a box in the Gates room near the tv or if you are attending the party just bring them with you.)
