Christian Education Director- 

First Church Sandwich, United Church of Christ, an open and affirming congregation seeks an energetic Christian Education Director to lead our Christian Education program. The Director will report directly to the Pastor but work in coordination with the Faith Formation Committee. We are looking for someone to bring new energy, ideas, and to expand our programs. Overall Responsibilities
The Christian Education Director is responsible for the religious education program for the children and youth of the church.

Major Tasks
1. Selects, in conjunction with the Faith Formation Committee and the pastor, the curriculum(a) to be used in the church school program.
2. Manages and directs the church school program. Recruits, or coordinates recruitment of, teachers and volunteers.
3. Coordinates and/or delivers the children's message during the 9:00 congregational worship service as agreed upon with the pastor.
4. Directs and oversees summertime Vacation Bible School.
5. Attends meetings of the Faith Formation Committee, Council, and staff meetings as needed.
6. Coordinates the communion education program for children.
7. Takes steps to ensure compliance with and regular training "safe church" policy, including CORI checks on volunteer adults working closely with children.
8. Oversees the annual updates of church school participant membership and coordinates family contact information with the church member database.
9. Communicates in a timely manner (The Spire, Sunday bulletin, email, website, church announcements, mailings) with the church school families and the broader church and community about Christian Education activities and opportunities for involvement.
10. Assists in the youth ministry program including planning youth group gatherings.

Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Senior Minister.
Supervises volunteers.

- Faith Formation Committee
- Church administrative manager
- Church school families
- Music Director
- Church Council
- Human Resources Committee

The Christian Education Director will average 10 hours per week, which includes Sunday mornings over 52 weeks.
Qualifies for paid benefit time per the Personnel Handbook and approved by the Senior Pastor. This is an hourly position paying up to $24/hr.
Qualifications
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Minimum of five years of involvement and/or membership in a church
• Background and ability in working cooperatively with a multi-staffed church or with diverse groups of people.
• Be an effective team leader
• Experience working with children, volunteers and/or in education
• College degree or equivalent experience required.

Faith in Action Coordinator-

The Faith in Action Coordinator must be a Spirit led team player who is capable of leading and directing missions and outreach opportunities for both youth and adults in an established vibrant faith community. This person must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and motivational skills. They should be equipped with a working knowledge of event planning, program management and communication. Additionally, they should have a keen interest in inter-generational activities which bring to life sharing God’s love in our greater community.

Overall Responsibilities
The Faith in Action Coordinator is responsible for helping to create Christian mission and outreach opportunities of both youth and adults of the church.
Major Tasks

  1. Create and coordinate youth and inter-generational opportunities for service and mission within the wider community

  2. Recruit and coordinate volunteers for various outreach and mission activities

  3. Develop and build relationships with local organizations in order to understand community dynamics and how the church can meet their needs

  4. Attends Outreach and Faith Formation Committee Meetings as needed

  5. Assists in the youth ministry program including planning youth group gatherings

  6. Engages parents and families in programs through volunteerism and promotional messaging. 

  7. Maintain and create communications for activities and events for church newsletters, website, emails, social media and other publications

  8. Takes steps to ensure compliance with “safe church” policy, including CORI checks on volunteer adults working closely with children

  9. Coordinates adult and youth group summer mission trips

Reports to the Senior Minister.
