A group of First Church Teens will be attending – Friday, Nov.21st The program includes refreshments, workshop & forum ahead of the play. Program begins at 6:00 – play starts at 7:30. Cost $15.00. We will leave Sandwich 4:30, return around 10:30. Participating adults: Nancy Lawrence, Jennie Valentine, Janet Wright. Rotation – grades 2 – 6: “Wandering in the Wilderness” (Oct. 19, 26 & Nov. 2, 9) The Hebrew people wandered in the desert trying to understand the presence of God. We too struggle for this same understanding. May we learn from their experience that God is always present. Bedouin Encampment – the children will re-enact the construction of a Sukkoth, as well as weave pieces of the curtains that enfold the Ark of the Covenant. Created by the Spirit – we explore the story of the Wilderness Experience by writing postcards back to the people who stayed in Egypt. Mary & Martha’s Bed & Breakfast – children make a miniature version of the Ark of the Covenant as a personal remembrance of God’s presence in our lives. Moved by the Spirit – group games reinforce the concept that the Ark of the Covenant went before the Hebrews at all times. “The Incarnation” rotation will begin Nov. 16th NO Regular Church School - Thanksgiving Sunday, Nov. 23rd INTERGENERATIONAL SERVICE – Godly Play will meet In December’s Spire watch for information about the ‘gather round curriculum being used by grades 7/8 & 9/10. STEWARDSHIP – the children in grades 2 – 10 will place their offering in baskets as they leave the sanctuary headed for their classes; to be dedicated along with the adults. The children voted to send last year’s offering to Heifer Project for the purchase of a water buffalo ($250.00), geese ($20.00) and ducks ($20.00). On November 2nd they will receive ballots for selecting where this year’s offering will be sent. “BE OPENED” TO LIVING GREEN – All church school Sunday Oct. 12th launched this year’s efforts to bring awareness to God’s Creation Our Environment. The children worked on our Living Green Banner and made Green Journals sharing the ways in which their families recycle. The banner will be on display very soon! ADVENT WORKSHOP & Potluck supper - mark your calendars for Dec. 7th Recently the United Church of Christ released a new ad entitled “Steeples”. The ad uses the familiar childhood rhyme “Here is the church. Here is the steeple...” It can be viewed at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boyo8uK7G8Y. Jennie Valentine showed the children in her Godly Play class (K/1st) the ad and they really loved it. Some of them did not know the rhyme, so Jennie taught it to them. They have worked up & videotaped their own First Church Steeples Ad and will be sharing it with the congregation.
